Woman Hiking—WPA recreation project, Dist. No. 2

We don't know about you, but we've been outside as much as possible this summer, enjoying the long days and seemingly even longer evenings. We're also appreciating our many editions that give love to Mother Nature, including Woman Hiking—WPA recreation project, Dist. No. 2. This piece was one of the original silkscreen, lithograph, and woodcut posters produced between 1936 and 1943 across seventeen states and the District of Columbia as part of the Works Progress Administration, and it was radical at the time! Imagine...a woman...hiking!

In this piece, you can spot a small signature on the left side of the print: “Shari”. Shari Weisberg was the artist of this and many other iconic WPA posters, the printing of which was a group effort.

Similarly, it's up to all of us to collaboratively remind each other to get out in and appreciate the great outdoors. We like to do this all year long by gazing at art about the natural world. Enjoy these great editions, then get out there!
