INTRODUCING MODERN HEIRLOOMS

The name &Daughter comes from a love for something passed implicitly through generations. My Irish Granny was an amazing knitter, crafting beautiful hand-knit Arans from the Donegal yarns of her home. It was a love she passed onto my Dad who was drawn to his homestead, to the Donegal Tweeds of his birthplace and the hand-knits of his mother’s hand. Years later he passed this onto me, the fabric of it being the fabric of our childhood.

The first piece we made for &Daughter eleven years ago was an Aran. In Ardara, Donegal we visited the first makers and mills my Dad had worked with and sought to create an Aran with the same sense of story and permanence, a jumper which could get better with each wear.

Today we are pleased to introduce Modern Heirlooms, a collection of heritage-inspired knits that seeks to continue this legacy. Spun and made in Donegal, each piece celebrates the value of things which companion us through time, the stories they tell and history they hold.

A well-made knit is a modern heirloom, looked after it will last a lifetime, made to be cherished and passed on.
