5 Easy One-Weekend Home Improvement Projects

If you’re in the mood to give your home a little TLC, you don’t need to commit to a full-blown renovation. In fact, a weekend is plenty of time to check a few satisfying improvements off your list—and still have time to relax.

Here are five projects that are easy to complete but pack a punch when it comes to making your space feel refreshed and loved.

1. Replace Light Switch and Outlet Covers: You might not notice them until they’re outdated, paint-splattered, or mismatched—but once you swap them out for clean, modern covers, your walls instantly feel more polished.

Choose a simple white, a trendy matte black, or even decorative styles for a more customized look. It’s a small update that makes everything feel neater.

2. Touch-Up Paint Throughout the House: Grab a small brush, a damp cloth, and that can of leftover wall paint in the basement. Focus on areas around doorknobs, corners, baseboards, and light switches—anywhere scuffs and dings tend to happen.

It’s amazing how much better your home looks when those little blemishes disappear.

3. Caulk the Bathroom (or Kitchen Sink): If the caulk around your tub, shower, or sink is cracking, peeling, or moldy, it’s time to give it a refresh. Removing old caulk and applying a clean new line makes your space look well cared for—and helps prevent future water damage. It’s easier than it sounds and very satisfying once it’s done.

4. Hang a Few Hooks Where You Actually Need Them: Think function first: inside the back door for bags, in the bathroom for towels or robes, near the garage for pet leashes or garden gloves.

Adding hooks in smart places can help you stay more organized—and make the daily flow of life a bit smoother.

5. Clean and Re-Style a Single Shelf or Surface: Pick one: the bathroom counter, the coffee table, a bookshelf, or the top of your dresser. Remove everything, wipe it clean, and put back only what you love or use.

Maybe add a candle, a little tray, or a framed photo. It’s a fast project that gives you an instant sense of order—and a nice visual reward every time you pass by.

You don’t need a sledgehammer or a renovation budget to improve your home. A few intentional tweaks, tackled over a weekend, can restore order, bring a fresh look, and make you feel more at ease in your space.

We're Hooked on This TV Series

Joe and I have been watching The Kominsky Method on Netflix, and we’ve been hooked. Michael Douglas plays Sandy Kominsky, an aging acting coach with a sharp tongue, and Alan Arkin plays Norman, his longtime agent and even longer-time friend.

The show is filled with witty one-liners and dry humor, like when Sandy says, “The good news is I still wake up every morning. The bad news is I have to get out of bed.”

What makes the show so good isn’t just the humor—it’s the honesty. Aging isn’t glamorized. It’s messy, inconvenient, and sometimes heartbreaking. But it’s also full of dry humor, second chances, and surprisingly sweet moments.

Watching Sandy and Norman banter their way through the ups and downs reminds me how powerful long-term friendship really is—even when life feels like a string of doctor’s appointments and awkward family dinners.

The dialogue is sharp and often laugh-out-loud funny. At one point, Norman deadpans, “I’m not great at parties. I tend to tell people what I really think of them.” And when Sandy is told to act natural, he mutters, “I haven’t felt natural since 1973.”

It’s the kind of show that makes you laugh out loud one minute and feel quietly reflective the next. Highly recommend.
