A Fresh Start: The First Day of Spring

I love the first day of spring. When it arrives, it’s like a breath of fresh air—literally and figuratively. After months of winter, the world starts to wake up again. The days feel lighter, the air smells fresher, and I can’t help but feel a renewed sense of energy. Even if the weather isn’t quite warm yet, just knowing that spring is officially here lifts my spirits.

A Season of Renewal
Spring is all about fresh starts. Just as the trees bud and flowers push through the soil, we, too, have a chance to grow. If winter felt heavy—whether from clutter, routines that no longer work, or just the slow pace of the colder months—this is the perfect moment to shake it off.

A Simple Refresh to Welcome the Season
I like to mark the first day of spring with something small but refreshing. Maybe it’s opening the windows, clearing off one surface that’s been gathering clutter, stepping outside for a few deep breaths, or maybe even adding a new spring-themed tablerunner to my decor. It doesn’t have to be a big overhaul—just a little shift to welcome the new season.

Set a Spring Intention
With spring comes possibility. I love taking a moment to ask myself: What do I want more of this season? Maybe it’s more movement, more creativity, more time outdoors. I encourage you to do the same. Write it down somewhere as a gentle reminder to embrace it.

Let Nature Be Your Guide
Nature has a way of reminding us that change is natural, beautiful, and necessary. I always try to notice the little signs of spring—the birds chirping earlier, the tiny buds on the trees, the longer stretches of daylight. Nature doesn’t rush, yet everything gets done. That’s a lesson I try to remember.

Take One Step Forward
If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start something new, consider this it. Spring isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress.

So take that first step, no matter how small. Clear one drawer. Go for a short walk. Begin the thing you’ve been putting off.

Spring is here, and with it comes fresh energy, new beginnings, and the reminder that we, too, can bloom.

Here are some of the little signs that signal spring is on its way:

The first time you hear birds chirping before sunrise.

A single bright green bud appearing on what was a bare tree branch.

The soft hum of bees or a butterfly floating by when you didn’t expect it.

That moment when the air smells fresh—like earth, rain, and something new.

A squirrel suddenly dashing across the yard like it has big plans.

The ground softening, no longer frozen and unyielding.

A ladybug landing on your windowsill.

The first time you notice it's still light outside at dinnertime.

The delicate crunch of melting ice as it disappears from sidewalks and puddles.

The switch from craving warm, cozy meals to something crisp and fresh.

Spring isn’t just about daffodils blooming or the first 60-degree day—it’s about these small, easy-to-miss moments that tell us, quietly but surely, that change is happening.
