To our Negative fam on our birthday —

Lucky Number Eleven.

In the lead up to Negative’s launch in 2014, there had been so much moonlit work behind the scenes: years of industry education, business planning, product and brand development. Trips to Paris, the Manhattan Garment District, and Medellín took us from idea to prototype to production. We had orchestrated a photoshoot, built a website, planned a launch party, and secured an exclusive in the Wall Street Journal. When all things went live on February 1st, we had high hopes and no clue what the response would be.

It felt like we blinked and orders were in the hundreds. Looking back 11 years, those numbers seem small, but in the moment, they felt so big. We were still working full-time jobs, so order processing meant early AM and late PM shifts to get shipments out the door amid an especially snowy February in New York.

Ironically, we’d considered so many details about the brand and business, but not how we would actually ship orders. Those of you who were among the earliest Negative customers: do you remember that your order came in a USPS First Class Mail envelope? Some were even addressed by hand because it took a few days to figure out how to properly print shipping labels! We handwrote thank you’s to each and every customer - the same gratitude we feel today for the thousands upon thousands of you who show up to support this brand.

Today marks 11 years in business. In addition to a good bottle of champagne and some Whipped Confetti (newly back in stock!), we are celebrating with an evolved logo and a brand-new, earth-friendly packaging system, which is rolling out over the course of the year. These progressions represent a continued commitment to what Negative stands for: removing the unnecessary to focus on what matters.
